Porto Alegre is not a great touristy city but there’s plenty to do and see here for the traveller, be you a backpacker or biker (motor or cycle type) or if you’re travelling around the world on a pogo-stick or Space Hopper (anyone remember THOSE?), PoA’s an ideal stop off point on the way to Terra del Fuego, the end of the world WAAAAAY darn sarf. Even if you decide to stay for a couple of weeks (GAWD knows, I’ve been here 15 years) you’ll love it. And there’s less chance of being mugged than in Rio or São Paulo.
